According to Indian media, 8 Asiatic lion cubs have died in the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in the Indian state of Gujarat.
In this regard, the state's Forest Minister, Arjun Modhwadia, said that the recent death of 8 Asiatic lion cubs was not due to 'Babiashia' infection or any virus, but that the lion cubs died due to heat and weakness associated with it.
He also said that of the 17 lions that fell ill, 12 were quarantined as a precautionary measure and released into the wild after they recovered.
According to the Forest Minister, the remaining 5 lions are now healthy and will soon be released into their natural habitat.
