Prisoners seek medical services similar to those provided to the PTI founder; notice issued to Attorney General

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has issued a notice to the Attorney General seeking assistance regarding petitions filed by prisoners; they are requesting medical services similar to those provided to the PTI founder, Imran Khan. 

The Islamabad High Court heard petitions from three prisoners requesting medical services on the same terms as the PTI founder.

The Court issued a notice to the Attorney General for assistance; notices were also sent to other parties regarding the prisoners' grievances.

The Federal Constitutional Court noted that this is a matter of legal interpretation; Justice Aamer Farooq questioned the choice of a private hospital and asked why the treatment could not be carried out at the Polyclinic or PIMS Hospital. 

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi questioned the intent behind the prison regulations and asked how such steps could be taken when the rules are clear; he emphasized that there must be no discriminatory treatment and added that prison regulations are meaningless if they are not enforced. 

The Federal Constitutional Court adjourned the hearing on the issue of medical treatment until tomorrow.
