No matter how many times we've seen shorts on the streets, tailored to the whims of every designer at fashion weeks around the world, and celebrities trying shorts on – the truth is that jeans remain the timeless, trend-defying icon of every wardrobe. But this fall, we're taking it to the next level: you may have your perfect pair of jeans, but what about the shoes that go with them?
Comfortable, effortlessly chic, and with a classic air that just can't go out of style, we're fans of the brown ballerina flat as this season's go-to shoe. While the Adidas Samba and back-to-school loafers have dominated our shoe rotation for a while now, this has truly been the year of the ballet flat – from sporty sneakers and technical versions from Miu Miu, to sleek Adidas Taekwondo, patent and Parisian double strap styles, and platform shoes.
All shades of brown were also part of the 2025 color story, from deep chocolate to sand tones. When it comes to dark neutrals, brown has historically taken a backseat to navy, black, or gray. But years of choosing other colors actually played a big role in brown's comeback.Designers like Chloé and Bottega Veneta have used earthy tones as a way to create contrast between se_y silhouettes or earthy feminine pieces. And so the stage is set for the brown ballerina.
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is a fan of earthy ballet flats, pairing them with her signature tailored trousers for a chic and versatile look. Katie Holmes has been spotted more than once in a pair of woven and textured ballet flats from the super affordable Dune, which she styled with dark gray straight-leg jeans, a cozy gray crew-neck sweater, and chunky black socks.
Because of the ballerina's simple and elegant shape, it goes with almost any denim silhouette. They look great with skinny jeans, wide and flared skirts, 2020s-style skinny shoes and short capri shoes. You can find a version that suits your personal style: whether you like a refined and elegant T-shirt-style heel, a pair of ladies' heels, or one of the It-girl favorites in perforated leather. And the best part? These shoes are very easy to find: check out Alaïa Gucci and Miu Miu if you want to buy luxury shoes.
