The bra-as-outerwear trend can be traced back to Jean Paul Gaultier’s conical bras – which Madonna wore during her Blonde Ambition world tour in 1990.
Fast forward to today, bras are having another big moment, from Miu Miu’s bulletproof style on the catwalk to the throngs of London girls showing off their underwear this summer.
A modern star supporting the trend? Margot Robbie, who wore a reprint of a hot pink bra with a matching pencil skirt from Thierry Mugler’s autumn/winter 1998 collection – titled Lingerie Revisited – for a photoshoot in London for her new film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the actor has worn a bra as a fashion statement.
While promoting the Barbie movie in 2023, Robbie wore a blush pink tank top with a matching Prada miniskirt, while at the Chanel Cruise show in Los Angeles that same year, she paired a black triangle bra with flared jeans, covered with an embellished waistcoat.
As we approach fall, it remains to be seen whether bras will be as prevalent on the runways as they were this summer.
On the red carpet, you can expect to see a lot more "bullet" bras as we enter awards season.
