A US court has declared most of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump illegal. The court's ruling could undermine the Republican president's policy of influencing the global economy.
According to Reuters, the court allowed the new tariffs to remain in effect until October 14 to give the Trump administration a chance to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.
President Trump called the court's decision "extremely biased" and wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that "if these tariffs are lifted, it will be very harmful to the country."
However, he expressed hope that the Supreme Court could overturn the appeals court's decision.

The appeals court in Washington, D.C., ruled seven to four in a case examining the legality of President Trump's retaliatory tariffs, as well as additional tariffs imposed on China, Canada and Mexico.
President Trump has made tariffs a key pillar of US foreign policy in his second term, using them to exert political pressure on countries and renegotiate trade agreements.
The additional tariffs have allowed the Trump administration to demand economic concessions from trading partners, while at the same time increasing volatility in financial markets.
President Trump has imposed tariffs on several countries, invoking the International Economic Emergencies Act, which gives the president the authority to deal with "extraordinary" threats in emergency situations.
However, the court said in its ruling that the law allows the president to take a number of actions during a national emergency, but it does not include the authority to impose tariffs, levies or taxes.
