Russia has launched a new digital program to attract foreign workers in light of the growing labor shortage.

According to the British news agency Reuters, the Russian Foreign Ministry says that foreign citizens will be able to apply online for residence and work in the country through this service. The announcement was made on Wednesday on the social media platform X.

Russia has faced a severe labor shortage in various sectors since the start of the war in Ukraine, with millions of people joining the military, while defense industries have also withdrawn large numbers of workers, creating a vacuum in civilian institutions.

A large number of people have also left Russia since 2022, attributed to tight political control and post-war sanctions.

The "Time to Live in Russia" program aims to attract foreigners who have the required skills and respect traditional Russian values, but technical problems arose on Wednesday with the internet connection provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Scientists, entrepreneurs, athletes, creators, talented students and graduates, investors and other experts will be eligible to apply under this program.

Applicants will need to submit an application form and a short CV, provide proof of their qualifications, complete an online interview and then wait for a decision, which is set at a maximum of 125 days.

Successful applicants will be provided with a personal manager who will assist with visas, border operations and accommodation arrangements.
