This is the third winter storm to hit the United States in a week.

According to US media reports, several states, including Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan and Alaska, have been affected by cold winds, rain and snowfall.

Life in these states was paralyzed as residents were trapped in their homes by several inches of snow.

Up to 3.5 inches of snow fell in many parts of New York, covering parked planes at the airport and disrupting flight operations due to the severe weather.

More than 40 vehicles collided on a highway in Indiana, where authorities advised residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary due to heavy snowfall.

The US National Weather Service predicted more rain and snow.

Meanwhile, a severe snow warning was issued for the UK for the coming week.

Temperatures are expected to drop to two degrees below freezing, and snow is expected in several parts of England and Scotland on December 9 and 10.
