Millions of people have been affected by recent natural disasters in Asian countries, with more than 1,100 dead and thousands displaced in a single week.
604 people died in Indonesia, 366 in Sri Lanka, 176 in Thailand and 3 in Malaysia.
A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka, with President Anuradha Kumara describing the widespread devastation caused by the cyclone, rains and floods as more devastating than the damage caused by the 2004 tsunami.
According to the international charity Save the Children, thousands of children are unable to attend school due to severe flooding and landslides in Indonesia and Thailand.
According to the organization's latest report, some 76,000 children in southern Thailand are deprived of educational activities because schools are either closed or inaccessible in the affected areas.
The situation is also serious in Indonesia, where 1,000 schools have been destroyed or closed by floods.
Several schools are also being used as temporary emergency shelters, and therefore teaching activities have been suspended.
Save the Children says that the affected children urgently need education, as well as psychological and protective support, while the situation is likely to worsen due to the incessant rains.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continue in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, which was hit by Cyclone Dattu. Flight operations in Chennai have been suspended.
