Cyclone Dattu is heading for India after wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka.

According to media reports, Cyclone Dattu is likely to hit the Indian coast today.

The cyclone brought torrential rain to coastal areas of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, flooding low-lying areas and cancelling more than 50 flights.

Earlier, a state of emergency was declared in Sri Lanka due to Cyclone Dattu, which killed 153 people due to torrential rain, flooding and landslides.

According to foreign news agency Reuters, authorities say most of the deaths were caused by landslides, which were triggered by rainfall of up to 300 millimeters in the northern and eastern regions.
