A former Afghan police chief who opposed the Taliban government has been killed in Iran.
According to foreign media reports, Ikramuddin Sari was shot while leaving his office on Vali-e-Asr Street in Tehran. He was immediately taken to hospital but died of his injuries.
Ikramuddin Sari was a security official during the previous Afghan government and served as police chief of Takhar and Baghlan provinces.
Ikramuddin was considered one of the most outspoken critics of the Taliban. After the fall of the government, he continued to speak out against them. After the fall of the Afghan Taliban government, Ikramuddin sought refuge in Iran.
Iranian authorities declared the attack on Ikramuddin a targeted attack and launched an investigation into the incident.
It should be noted that Marouf Gholami, a close associate of anti-Taliban leader Ismail Khan, was shot dead in his office in Mashhad earlier in September.
