The death toll from a massive fire in Hong Kong apartment buildings has risen to 128, with 79 people injured and dozens still missing, according to local authorities.
According to foreign media reports, the actual cause of the fire has not yet been discovered, but officials say that polystyrene sheets and protective nets installed on the exterior windows of the buildings helped prevent the fire from spreading quickly.
Reports said that repair and renovation work was underway in the buildings before the fire broke out, and in this regard, the Anti-Corruption Commission arrested 8 people suspected of corruption, including the director of an engineering company.
Police are collecting evidence inside the buildings involved, while officials say it could take three to four weeks to complete the investigation into the incident.
The government has set up temporary shelters and support centers for affected families.
It is worth remembering that the fire in Hong Kong's apartment buildings has been described as the worst fire in its 70-year history.
