The European Commission is likely to impose sanctions against Israel during a meeting today.

The European Union has strongly condemned Israel's ground operation in Gaza.

The European Union policy chief says the ground offensive will worsen the already dire situation in Gaza, leading to further defeats and destruction.

He said the Gaza ceasefire committee would continue the government's stances on Gaza, including suspending trade privileges, imposing restrictions on priority land and violent settlers.

He said these steps would make it clear that the European Union is pursuing a ceasefire in Gaza.
