West Indies batsman star and 'Boss of the Universe' Chris Gayle has revealed that India's Punjab Kings team (formerly Kings XI Punjab) treated him in a way during his IPL career that caused him severe mental stress.
Chris Gayle, who was part of the Punjab Kings from 2018 to 2021 and played as an opening batsman, says the team did not give him the respect he deserved.
Gayle scored 1,304 runs in 41 matches for the team, including a century and 11 fifties, while his best score was 104 not out.
Despite this, his memories with the team are bitter.
Gayle said in a podcast that his IPL with Punjab ended prematurely.
He was not respected at Kings XI.
As a senior player who had done a lot for the league, he felt he was not being respected properly.
For the first time in his life, he felt he was falling into depression.
He said that at one point he cried while talking to Anil Kumble because he was very sad.
He was disappointed with him and the team management.
Chris Gayle further said that during this time, former team captain KL Rahul called him and assured him that he would play the next match, but he refused.
“KL Rahul called me and said, ‘Chris! Wait, you will play the next match.’ But I just said, ‘I can only wish you all the best,’ I packed my things and left the team.”
