Redmi is set to launch the Note 17 series in China this month, but based on past trends, the arrival of global models could still be a few months away. However, when they do reach other markets, they may differ significantly from their Chinese counterparts—as often happens.
BIS has now certified a Redmi device (model number 2607DRA18I) and a Poco device (model number 2607DPC18I); these could effectively be the same phone marketed under two different names—certainly not the first time Redmi and Poco have taken such a step.
According to reports, this version of the Redmi device will be launched on the global market as the "Redmi Note 17," while the Poco phone will likely be named the "Poco M8 Plus"; the latter will succeed the "Poco M7 Plus," which was launched last August. The Redmi Note 17 will effectively follow the "Redmi Note 15," as Redmi has decided to skip the number 16, thereby following Xiaomi's example.
It is not yet clear exactly how similar the global version of the Redmi Note 17 will be to its Chinese counterpart; however, the Chinese model is expected to feature a flat 6.83-inch display with "1.5K" resolution and will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor. It may also include a 9,000 mAh battery, support for 67W wired fast charging, and a 50-megapixel main camera. It remains to be seen whether all these specifications will also be included in the global model and the Poco M8 Plus.
