The new head of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, Roman Goffman, has forcibly fired his deputy after failing to overthrow the government in Iran.
Goffman took office as Mossad chief on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the head of Mossad's International Relations Department was unexpectedly forced to resign, and it is likely that many other Mossad officials will also have to resign.
According to the American news website, the deputy director of Mossad was given a team of hundreds of secret agents and a billion shekels last year, but he failed to overthrow the Iranian government.
These results were declared unacceptable, but in a statement released to the public by Mossad Director Goffman, he praised his deputy director for his 22 years of service.
The name of the dismissed deputy director was not disclosed, he was referred to only by the letter A.
