In Patna, unidentified suspects posing as customs officials robbed two employees of a jewelry store in Gujarat near Danapur railway station of about 17 kg of gold jewelry, worth more than 25 crore Indian rupees.
According to the Indian newspaper Times of India, the incident took place on the outskirts of Khagawal police station in Patna, when the two were on their way to Bakergunj in a rickshaw.
According to the police, Mahesh Mamtura and Prince Rampariya, residents of Rajkot, reached Danapur from Ahmedabad by Saharsa Express train.
They were carrying jewellery belonging to their owner Sunil Bhai, who owns a jewellery shop in Rajkot. When their rickshaw reached the Khagawal flyover, they were stopped by five to seven accused, who were travelling in a car (with police stickers on it) and two motorcycles.
The suspects, dressed in white shirts and khaki trousers, posed as customs officials and after a brief search confiscated three bags full of gold. They forced Mahesh into their car. Prince told police that the suspects' professional demeanor initially convinced him that they were indeed officials.
Mahesh was blindfolded and later abandoned in a deserted spot on Nobatpur Road. The suspects fled, leaving the two victims behind.
The Khagawal police have seized the vehicle used in the incident, which has a fake registration number, and the owner is being traced through the chassis number.
The accused are seen chasing the victims in the CCTV footage from the Danapur railway station. Senior police officials and the Special Task Force (STF) are also involved in the investigation.
According to SDPO Danapur Shivam Dhakkar, a case of cheating has been registered at the Khagawal police station. He said that two people who had come by train from Rajkot were cheated and robbed by unknown accused who posed as fake customs officials.
