US President Donald Trump again urged Iran to reach a deal by a Tuesday deadline or else 'an entire civilization will disappear tonight' if a deal is not reached to end the conflict.

“An entire civilization will end tonight and will never be able to rise again,” Trump said in a statement to Truth Social on Tuesday. “I don’t want it to happen, but it very likely will.”

“We will find out tonight. It will be one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world,” he added.

Meanwhile, Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moqadam, said that efforts to end the war have entered a "very critical and decisive phase."

He wrote on the social media platform X that "good faith and diplomatic efforts to prevent war are approaching a sensitive and important phase." He did not provide further details, however.

The Iranian envoy's statement came hours before a deadline given by US President Donald Trump to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on key installations.

Later on Tuesday, a senior Iranian source told Reuters that Iran had rejected any proposal for a temporary ceasefire with the United States and had taken the position that negotiations should be based only on a permanent peace agreement.

Iran's ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammad Totunchi, urged Gulf countries to play their part in preventing a potential "catastrophe" as the deadline given by the US president quickly expired.

"We hope that countries in the region will use all their diplomatic and political skills to prevent this tragedy," he said.

Meanwhile, Iran and Israel continued to trade missile strikes on Tuesday, with Tehran flatly refusing to accept the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the ceasefire agreement. The standoff came just before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump to meet his demands or face tough action.

According to sources, Iran had earlier rejected a US proposal brokered by Pakistan that included an immediate ceasefire, lifting of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and broader peace talks within 15 to 20 days.

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Iran's response included 10 points, including ending conflicts in the region, a mechanism for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions and reconstruction.

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump said that "the entire country (Iran) could be destroyed overnight, and that night could be tomorrow".

He warned that if Tehran does not reach a deal by the deadline, Iranian power plants and infrastructure will be destroyed.

According to President Trump, if a deal is not reached, by Wednesday morning (04:00 GMT) "Iran's bridges will be blown up" and "every power plant will be burned to the ground, destroyed by explosions and never usable again."
