A report based on satellite imagery by the American newspaper The New York Times claims that an oil spill has been reported from Iran's Kharg Island.

According to the American newspaper, oil is spreading from Iran's main oil export terminal off the coast of Kharg Island, but the cause of the oil spill was not immediately known.

According to Orbital EOS, which monitors oil spills, the oil appears to have spread to 52 square kilometers of Saudi Arabian waters.

It should be noted that Iran's largest oil terminal, oil pipelines, storage tanks and related infrastructure are located on Kharg Island.
