According to a Financial Times report, Iran secretly purchased a Chinese spy satellite in late 2024, using which it targeted US military bases in the Middle East during the current war, while Beijing dismissed the report as false.

Reuters cited a report from the Financial Times that said the TEE-01B satellite, developed and launched by Chinese company EarthEye, was purchased by the Space Force of Iran's Revolutionary Guard. According to leaked Iranian military documents, the satellite was used to monitor US military installations.

The newspaper said Iranian military commanders had instructed the satellite to monitor key US military facilities and provided real-time coordinates, satellite imagery and orbital analysis. The images were taken before and after the drone and missile strikes in March.

According to the report, the Revolutionary Guards also accessed commercial ground stations of Beijing-based Emposat, which provides satellite control and data services in Asia, Latin America and other regions.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the report, saying that "recently, some circles have been fabricating rumors and maliciously linking them to China. China firmly opposes such actions carried out with ulterior motives."
