About 200,000 people in France demonstrated against budget cuts and demanded the immediate resignation of President Macron.
People took to the streets in several cities across France, setting fire to garbage cans and other objects.
Protesters set fire to a bus in the western city of Rennes and set fire to part of a building in Paris.
Protesters blocked major roads and highways in several places, and train services were suspended in the southwest after power lines were engulfed in flames.
Protesters said the government must change its policies, not its face.
Meanwhile, police used rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
The French Interior Ministry said that around 500 people were arrested from across the country.
It should be remembered that François Bayrou failed to secure a vote of confidence from parliament two days ago.
The failure to resolve the country's ongoing financial crisis, the abolition of public holidays and cuts to welfare spending are said to have led to a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Bayrou, who came to power in December 2024.
However, yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the appointment of a close ally and the country's defense minister, Sebastien Lacourne, as the new prime minister.
