Despite sanctions, door still open for diplomatic talks with Iran: EU/File photo |
Brussels: The European Union has reinstated sanctions on Iran, accusing it of violating the nuclear deal.
The European Union, in a statement confirming the sanctions, said the sanctions were imposed on Iran for its continued violation of the nuclear deal, under which the assets of the Central Bank of Iran and other Iranian banks were frozen.
The European Union said travel restrictions were also imposed on some Iranian officials, while also banning the purchase and shipment of Iranian crude oil, the sale of gold and certain naval equipment.
The European Union said the door for diplomatic talks with Iran remained open despite the sanctions.
It should be noted that on September 27, the United Nations Security Council failed to adopt a resolution to extend the period of sanctions relief granted to Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal, after which sanctions lifted against Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal were reinstated.
