This dinosaur also had long spines around its neck
A dinosaur with long spines has been discovered in Morocco, a unique dinosaur.
According to reports, scientists have named this spiny dinosaur Spicomellus afer. This discovery recently made headlines for an extraordinary and unusual reason.
Spicomellus afer is a new species that lived in Morocco during the Middle Jurassic period, about 165 million years ago. This region is now near the Atlas Mountains.
This dinosaur is the oldest species of the ankylosaur group, which were agile, four-legged, ground-stomping herbivorous dinosaurs.
Its body was adorned with long, sharp spikes, like spikes up to a meter long, that jutted out from its wings.
Similarly, it had long spines around its neck. Researchers believe that these heavy, long spines served both defensive purposes, to ward off predators, and display purposes, such as to impress mates or intimidate competitors.
